PS5 repairs: HDMI ports, overheating, disc drives and more

PlayStation 5 not playing ball? We repair PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition consoles, plus DualSense controllers, at our workshop in Cefn-y-bedd near Wrexham.

The PS5 faults we see most

Close-up of a games console HDMI port being repaired

No picture or “no signal”

The PS5’s HDMI port is easy to damage if the cable is knocked or pulled. We replace the port. HDMI repair →
Console cooling fan and heatsink being cleaned

Overheating and shutting down

Dust clogs the PS5’s large fan and heatsink. We clean it out, check the fan and look at the cooling.
Console circuit board being tested for a no-power fault

No power, blue light, safe mode loops

We test the power supply and board to find the real fault, then quote.
PS5 DualSense controller

DualSense stick drift

Drifting sticks, failing triggers and charging faults. Stick drift →

Disc drive faults

Discs not reading, not ejecting or grinding noises on disc-edition consoles.

Storage and software

Update failures and storage errors are checked before anything is replaced.

Before you bring it in

Note what happens: does it power on, does the light pulse, does it show anything on screen, does it switch off after a while? That helps us find the fault faster.

Please bring the power cable and a controller with your console, so we can test it properly before and after the repair.

How it works

  1. Book or just pop in. Use the booking form, call 0333 600 3330, or bring it to the shop in Cefn-y-bedd.
  2. We check it over. We test the console with your cable and controller and find the actual fault.
  3. You get a quote. We tell you what’s wrong and what it will cost before we do any work.
  4. We repair and test it. Then you collect it from the shop, with onsite parking right outside.

PS5 faults explained

No signal: port or chip?

If the PS5 powers on (white light) but the TV shows nothing, the HDMI port is the usual suspect, especially if the cable feels loose or the pins look bent. Sometimes the fault is the chip behind the port, which we check before quoting. A PS5 HDMI port replacement is £85 including the part.

Overheating and the liquid metal

The PS5 uses liquid metal between the chip and the heatsink, and a big fan that pulls in dust. Symptoms are a loud fan, overheating warnings and shut-downs. Our clean and re-paste, from £60, includes a full clean of the fan and heatsink and checking the thermal material.

Blue light, no boot or safe mode loops

These can be software, storage or board faults. We test it properly and tell you which before any work. No-power and board-level repairs are from £75.

Disc drive won’t read or eject

On disc models, the drive can wear, jam or lose its laser. Disc drive repairs are from £70. Digital Edition consoles don’t have this part.

USB ports and controller connection

Damaged USB ports and pairing faults are checked as part of the diagnosis and quoted separately.

What we do, step by step

  1. Test it with your cable and controller to see the fault for ourselves.
  2. Open it up and inspect the board, ports, fan and heatsink.
  3. Quote you and wait for your yes.
  4. Repair, clean out any dust while it’s open, and reassemble.
  5. Test the picture, the fan and the controller connection before you collect.

Prevention tips for PS5 owners

Stand it right

Use the stand, keep vents clear and don’t put it in an enclosed shelf.

Look after the HDMI

Leave slack in the cable and unplug it before moving the console.

Clean the dust ports

The PS5 has dust catchers behind the side panels; a light hoover every few months helps.

How quotes work

Every console is different, so we look before we price. When you bring it in we note the fault you’ve described, test it with your cable and controller, and open it up if we need to. Then we tell you what’s wrong, what the repair involves and the price, and nothing is done until you say yes. Where we publish a fixed price, that’s the price. Where it says “from”, the final price is confirmed after we’ve had a look, before any work starts. If a repair isn’t worth doing, we’ll tell you straight.

The warranty in plain words

If we fit a standard part, like an HDMI port, a fan, a drive or a stick, and the same fault comes back within 12 months, bring it back and we’ll put it right. Board-level work, such as soldering repairs on the motherboard, carries 3 months, because those boards have often been through a knock or a spill already. The warranty covers our part and our workmanship. It doesn’t cover new drops, spills, or someone else opening the console after us.

Questions

How much does it cost to repair a PS5?

A PS5 HDMI port repair is £85 including the part. Clean and re-paste is from £60, disc drive repairs from £70 and no-power faults from £75. Final price confirmed after we've had a look.

Can you fix a PS5 with no picture?

Very often. A damaged HDMI port is the most common cause, and it can be replaced. Sometimes the fault is on the board near the port, which we'll check.

My PS5 keeps turning off. Why?

Overheating is the usual culprit: dust build-up in the fan and heatsink. A professional clean usually sorts it, and we'll check for other causes too.

Do you repair PS5 controllers?

Yes. We repair DualSense stick drift, triggers and charging faults.

What should I bring with my PS5?

Please bring the power cable and a controller, so we can test it properly.

Is the repair guaranteed?

Yes: 12 months on standard part replacements and 3 months on board-level work.

Is it worth repairing a PS5?

Usually yes. A port, fan, clean or drive repair costs a fraction of a new console and you keep your saves and setup.

Will I lose my games and saves?

Hardware repairs like HDMI ports and cleans don't touch your storage. If a fault involves storage, we'll tell you first.

Can you fix a PS5 Slim or Pro?

Yes. We repair the original PS5, the Slim and the Pro.
