Faults Chester customers bring in

Xbox Series X or S with no picture

The Series consoles carry the HDMI signal through a small chip before it reaches the port, so we check the port under magnification and test the picture before quoting. Series X HDMI port is £85 and Series S £75.

PS5 that turns off mid-game

Usually dust in the fan and heatsink, which builds up faster in busy households. A clean and re-paste starts from £60, and we’ll tell you if the fan itself needs replacing.

Disc not reading

On disc-edition consoles, drives wear, belts slip and lasers weaken. Disc drive repairs are from £70.

Students’ consoles

Consoles that travel between home and halls get knocked about: bent HDMI ports, cracked shells and controllers with worn sticks are common. Bring it in when you’re home for the weekend.

Why not just post it off?

You keep control

You hand it to the person fixing it, explain what it’s doing and get a straight answer, instead of filling in a form and waiting for a courier.

No packaging risk

Consoles are heavy and awkward to post. Driving it over avoids a box, a courier and a parcel that could get dropped.

Local accountability

We’ve been in the area since 2009 with over 3,000 customers. If something isn’t right, you know where we are.

How quotes work

Every console is different, so we look before we price. When you bring it in we note the fault you’ve described, test it with your cable and controller, and open it up if we need to. Then we tell you what’s wrong, what the repair involves and the price, and nothing is done until you say yes. Where we publish a fixed price, that’s the price. Where it says “from”, the final price is confirmed after we’ve had a look, before any work starts. If a repair isn’t worth doing, we’ll tell you straight.

The warranty in plain words

If we fit a standard part, like an HDMI port, a fan, a drive or a stick, and the same fault comes back within 12 months, bring it back and we’ll put it right. Board-level work, such as soldering repairs on the motherboard, carries 3 months, because those boards have often been through a knock or a spill already. The warranty covers our part and our workmanship. It doesn’t cover new drops, spills, or someone else opening the console after us.
